The Management Committee of the IFSA – Australia Chapter is pleased to announce our Annual Feng Shui Convention for 2012; to be held on the 19th & 20th of May in the Gala Room and Atrium at the Brighton Savoy Hotel. Located on the shores of the beautiful Brighton Beach, this lovely venue overlooks Port Phillip Bay and the city of Melbourne.

Our theme for this year is 'A Conversation with the Masters' and once again aims to bring together renowned Feng Shui practitioners, teachers, experts and Masters from Australia and around the world who will generously share their expertise and views on both traditional Feng Shui methods and modern 21st century practices.

With the goal to unite delegates from all parts of Australia, this 2 day convention also aims to promote and further develop the national Feng Shui industry, as well as provide a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical approaches. This event also creates an inherently valuable opportunity for professional development, networking and sharing amongst our Feng Shui community.

In addition we are pleased to announce that our keynote speaker for this year is internationally acclaimed author, lecturer, researcher and Feng Shui Master, Stephen Skinner. Stephen was responsible for introducing real Feng Shui to the West and wrote the first 20th century English book on the subject in 1976. His newly re-released Guide to the Feng Shui Compass or lo p'an is a must for any Classical Feng Shui practitioner and we are indeed extremely fortunate to announce that Stephen will also be running our 2 dayPost Convention Workshop titled 'Rings of the lo' pan less travelled' on the 21st & 22nd of May 2012.

Feng Shui for Retail Businesses

In February I co-ordinated as well as completed Howard Choy's Feng Shui for Retail Businesses Course here in Sydney. As a group we worked on two case studies - a Gift Shop selling homewares, jewellery etc and a Cellars. Using tried and tested methods of Howard Choys San Cai Methodology we were able to advise and recommend subtle changes to both premises to enhance qi flow. Objectives in retail Feng Shui is #1 improved profits - this needs to be always kept in mind when working on these types of assessments.

Whereas residential Feng Shui we ensure harmony and health is of utmost importance.

Bendigo Museum grows into its new metallic skin

Unveiled to the public at the museum’s recent 20th anniversary celebrations, the extension of Bendigo’s Golden Dragon Museum was designed to reflect links to Chinese cultural philosophy.

Woods Bagot designed the additions, with glowing metallic skin and lightly ornamented appearance.

Bruno Mendes, the design leader from Woods Bagot, said the rising of the building to a third storey on the south, is a deliberate gesture to assimilate in feng-shui practice, garnering the positive energies from the Bendigo Botanic Gardens.

“Free in form and articulation, the skin of the new building references the patterning of the Chinese Wheel of Life, which dates back to 1834,” he said.

Harry Charalambous, principal, Woods Bagot, has been associated with the Museum for over 20 years, with leading the design of the museums masterplan – a new Chinese Precinct which included the Chinese gardens during the early nineties.”

“It’s wonderful to see the museum, and its design continuing to evolve. What’s remained current in the design philosophy over two decades is the Bendigo Chinese Association’s commitment to incorporate totally authenticity to enable a link to their ancestral cultural heritage with their local history of settlement in Bendigo,” said Charalambous.

The new concept design includes three levels of new space for the museum, touring exhibitions, a restaurant, gift shop, function space and internal courtyard gardens.

The new design reflects the continuation of the museum being a hub for Chinese cultural activity and will allow the museum to house further Chinese exhibits and enable the museum to be recognised and participate on an international scale.

“We hope to make partnerships with other museums throughout the world to ensure an active calendar of events once we build the extension,” said Anita Jack, general manager, Golden Dragon Museum

An historic settlement area for the Chinese, opened in 1991, the Museum was designed to house a vast collection of Chinese artefacts including the Sun Loong - the longest Imperial dragon in the world.

Known for its ‘gold boom’ architecture, Bendigo is a major regional city in Victoria, Australia.

Property Search with Feng Shui

If you are serious about living in a Feng Shui positive home or buying a commercial residence that has good energy here are some tips for you:

1. Dont rush into the inside of the building first - those show homes do look beautifully staged but this is material objects doing a great job, this is not having the best energy. Interior design is not Feng Shui.
2. View the external area within at least a 2km radius - look for motorways, pylons, transmitters, check a google map and show these locations on the map
3. View the close vicinity around the property, look for the location of pools, drains, waterways, fast roads, corners of roofs etc
4. Importantly - find out why the building is up for sale or for lease
5. If the property seems to be a bargain - question why? For a home if the residents divorced or were bankrupt and had to sell - this should be a good indication that there is something wrong energetically. For a commercial residence - if the previous owners/tenants relocated due to lack of space this is a good sign, if they downsized or went out of business - need I say more
6. If the building is situated in a business park, look around you to see how many other premises are up for lease
7. Check the location of the main door, if the door is tilted do not consider this building, if the main door is down a side alley also do not consider this building, the main door is the first point of entry for positive qi - ensure that it is located in an open spacious area

In the last few months I have viewed properties that clients have rushed into and unfortunately their dream property is not a dream after all - their businesses are struggling. In most instances Feng Shui consultants are called in too late - it is best to utilise our time before you start your search, let us work with you on your objectives for the new premises whether it is home or commercial. Let us give you the information you require for the search. We do not need to see every property if you have us to guide you in the first instance. This way you can narrow your search down, you can do the leg work, weed out the properties that are not suitable and come to us with a final selection of 2 or 3. Our job is then to assess which property is most suited for your needs. In some instances only major renovation will assist in getting a property energetically sound and this is an added cost, hanging a wind chime or placing a red item in a certain sector wont work as a cure if there are issues with the property in the first place.

Once chosen we recommend Feng Shui Date Selection for the signing of the contracts and the move in date. You do want to start off on the best foot possible dont you. Happy hunting!
