Feng Shui for apartments and high rise accommodation are dealt with slightly differently to Feng Shui for houses.

In apartments, apart from the external landforms and the other apartment buildings if you are in a complex, we need to assess the entrance to the building, the lifts to each floor, where your apartment is in relation to the lift and which floor you are living on. The location of your main door, kitchen and bedrooms are important. We are limited if any renovations or alterations are required to improve the Feng Shui.
For a house we concentrate on the external landforms, the main door, kitchen and bedrooms but it is easier to make those alterations or renovations.
In a Feng Shui analysis for an apartment or a high rise building it can be quite difficult today with modern architecture to judge the facing of the building. Some apartment blocks I have seen, seem to have several facings, or no facing at all such as ones that are completely round. Your main door in most cases of apartment living is not considered the facing of the building. Why is the facing so important? The facing of the building will determine the direction and what type of Qi the building is receiving.
It is still important to have the right external landforms with apartment living as with houses. Within a 2 – 4 km radius of the building you should evaluate the following features:
- Hills or mountains
- Creeks, rivers, lagoon, large drains, swimming pools and the ocean
- Roads, highways and bridges
- Pylons and television transmitters etc
- Other buildings that can be viewed from your balcony, kitchen or bedroom
Google maps are a good way of identifying key landforms in your area. Any of the above forms can have a positive or negative affect on your property.
Mountains govern people matters and water governs wealth. Currently we are in period 8 which will last until February 3 2024. During this period mountains should be located in the North East, North West, West and South to enhance relationships. Ideally you should have water located in the South West, South East, East and North to enhance wealth prospects.
The shape of the apartment building should also be taken into consideration. You don’t want a building to be too thin or narrow, L- shaped, lopsided or a lonely building ie one that is the only tall building in the area. Buildings are classified under the 5 element shapes – Water, Wood, Metal, Fire and Earth.
It is worth having the building shape match your Personal Gua or your Favourable element in your Bazi chart (also known as Four Pillars of Destiny).
The Main Entrance to the apartment building is very important as it enables the positive Qi to enter and rise to all floors. Ensure that there are no obstructions such as lamp posts or trees and that there is an area for Qi to collect before it enters the building. This is known as having an external Ming Tan or Bright Hall. Once through the doors ideally you should have an internal Ming Tan that will assist the Qi to navigate to the floors of the building. Lifts and their location are equally important to ensure the movement of Qi.
Each floor of the apartment building also represents one of the 5 elements. Ensure the floor that you have chosen is compatible with your Gua number. For example a Gua 8 person who is of the earth element should select the floors that are fire or earth – 2, 7, 12 for fire and 5,10 and 15 etc for earth.
Internally the apartment should be bright and airy. The location of the main door is important for receiving positive Qi. The kitchen should not be located in the centre of the apartment and the stove should be facing one of your favourable directions. Ensure that your bedroom is located in a positive sector and your bed head located in one of your favourable directions according to your Gua number.
Whether you live in an apartment or a house the emphasis is on having the right environment to support all your goals in life!
