frequently asked questions

1) What is Qi?

“Qi is the universal force of energy that flows through all matter.”

In the environment there are two kinds of Qi – positive Qi which in Feng Shui is called Sheng Qi and negative Qi which is called Sha Qi. In Feng Shui the aim is to enhance Sheng Qi and negate the effects of Sha Qi. Sha Qi is detrimental to your health, human harmony and wealth aspects.

Sha Qi (negative Qi) will affect your main door, bedrooms and kitchens. Some examples of Sha Qi are:

  1. Pylons
  2. T junctions
  3. Lamp posts
  4. A sharp pointed roof

2) Is Feng Shui a Religion?

No, Feng Shui is not based on any religion. It is analysing the Qi in your environment and it is an ancient science dating back to over 2000 years ago.

3) How Can You Achieve The Best Results From a Feng Shui Analysis?

In China there is a saying:

  • First is a man’s destiny
  • Second is his luck
  • Third is his Feng Shui
  • Fourth is his virtue
  • Fifth is his knowledge

There are three types of luck in our environment:

The first is called Heaven Luck. This is the luck that you were born with. You have no control over it as you cannot control when or where you were born or who you were born to.

The second is called Earth Luck. This is the luck you acquire living on earth. It is within your power to make changes in your life ie where you live, how you live etc. and you can control earth luck by using the principles of Feng Shui.

The third is called Human Luck. This is the luck that you make for yourself by your own intentions, your good deeds and your actions.

Improving your luck begins with enhancing the flow of Qi in your environment. Once a Feng Shui analysis has been completed and the recommendations put in place, depending on what you want to achieve the benefits in most cases are immediate, some take a little longer. It is recommended that you keep a diary of the changes and the affects that you have noticed.

4) What happens in a Feng Shui analysis?

The Feng Shui practitioner uses a Lou pan (compass) to determine the facing of the building. Using formulas the practitioner is then able to ascertain which Qi (energies) are in which sectors of your home or office based on your floor plan. The Feng Shui practitioner will also study the external environment to ascertain what outside influences are affecting the building. There are also annual energies and even monthly energies to take into consideration when analysing a building for Feng Shui.

5) Is there a good time to have a Feng Shui analysis done?

Most clients will contact you when they are experiencing certain issues in their lives. More often than not they are either health, wealth or relationship issues.

If you are planning to move the ideal time to call a Feng Shui practitioner in is when you have narrowed your selection down to two or three properties and you need an assessment on what is the most suitable property for you.

If you are planning to build, a Feng Shui practitioner should be called in when you have two or three possible land sites to choose from. After choosing the most suitable they then should work closely with the Architect to plan the building in such a way to receive the most auspicious Qi for the main areas such as main door, bedrooms, kitchen etc.

After having a Feng Shui analysis should you still have an annual assessment carried out?

Each year around 3-4th February the annual energies change in each sector. It is advisable to have an update to see which energies will affect your premises for the coming year. By the way these energies won’t change overnight, the affects can be even felt from November to December the previous year.

Testimonial from A Media Company

As Feng Shui 'novices' we consulted Jane for the purpose of conducting a commercial survey on our new offices in Singapore. Her survey was conducted before we moved in to ensure that we did things 'right' and Jane was incredibly flexible in offering her time and advice.

She was also very practical and helped us to adapt the way we work and the environment we worked in, rather than suggesting impractical changes that would be difficult or costly to implement. From the day we moved into our new premises we have enjoyed a 'boost' to our business ....so much so that we soon consulted Jane on a personal level for ourselves and our home.

Jane is a wonderfully personable professional who inspires confidence .... her approach to Feng Shui enables people to understand the philosophy behind the 'art'. We look forward to continuing to work with Jane and Feng Huang Consulting.

Testimonial from HR Company in Singapore

We would like to acknowledge the effort by Ms. Jane Dempster-Smith in completing the Feng Shui audit for our company on August 2004.

Feng Huang Consulting's professional talents of Feng Shui knowledge and documentation were key criteria for the decision to utilize their capabilities.

We found Jane's recommendations both comprehensive and accurate. Our company has since benefited much from these recommendations and had done extremely well for the year ended 31 December 2004.

Our Feng Shui project required a tight timeframe, which Jane worked tirelessly to achieve. I was duly impressed with the scheduling of project milestones, each of which was completed on or prior to the specified date.

The Feng Shui audit was delivered to our complete satisfaction, we are pleased to confirm Feng Huang Consulting's turnkey project competency.
